At 73, Jo Mooney lets her short, gray hair help define “what I am: life to live! On the move.”
A retired Wachovia/Wells Fargo executive, Jo first met Marcy Roof of the Green Hair staff after moving to Columbia from Tennessee 37 years ago. With Marcy, Jo quickly learned that her wavy hair needed a special touch, one that Marcy has been providing ever since.
Jo is asked who cuts her hair so frequently that she carries Marcy’s business cards with her to hand out whenever someone asks.
“No matter where we travel, people stop me to remark about my hair,” says Jo, adding that she not only embraces short hair, but gray hair, too.
“I think we as women, no matter how old we are, want to look chic and stylish. Having gray hair does not dictate that one need be dowdy. Instead use that as an edge to be yourself.”
Jo also has a special connection with Marcy because of the care Marcy showed Jo when she was going through colon cancer treatment 16 years ago. “I did not lose my hair, but it thinned a lot and she made it look great.”
Out of gratitude for her recovery, Jo volunteers regularly with cancer patients at the South Carolina Oncology Center. She and her husband also love spending time with their seven grandchildren and walking on the beach at Sanibel Island any chance they get.
